New Music Friday – Pixie Lott

Already a massive star in her native U.K., with one million singles sold, two No. 1 hits, and three No. 1 Airplay records to her credit, soulful pop singer and actress Pixie Lott is ready to unleash her talent Stateside this summer. Her debut U.S. single, “Boys and Girls,” is available at all digital service providers this week via Interscope Records.

The high-energy dance-pop jam “Boys and Girls” is 19-year-old Lott’s second consecutive No. 1 single in the U.K., and it’s just a taste of what’s to come when Lott releases her debut album, Turn It Up, in the U.S. in early 2011. Already certified double-platinum in the U.K., Turn It Up features Lott’s songwriting collaborations with RedOne (Lady Gaga), Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Sia), Toby Gad (Beyonce, Fergie, Cutfather and Jonas Jeburg (Kylie Minogue, Pussycat Dolls), and Kara DioGuardi.

In addition to releasing five singles in the U.K., Lott has scored three No. 1 Airplay tracks. She is the only U.K. or international recording artist of the last 10 years to have three debut singles hit No. 1 on the U.K. Airplay chart. She has also earned three BRIT Award nominations (including Breakthrough Artist) and a Q Award nomination, and won two MTV Europe Music Awards. This summer, Lott has appeared as support on the British leg of Rihanna’s “Last Girl on Earth” Tour.

An actress since the age of 12, Lott stars alongside Lucas Cruikshank in the feature film “Fred: The Movie“, based on the popular YouTube videos, which will premiere on Nickelodeon on September 17th. She has also been cast alongside Bette Midler, Adrien Brody, and Sharon Stone in the film “Sweet Baby Jesus” — a ’70s flashback comedy from writer Steve Blair and directed by Peter Hewitt.

Earlier this year, Billboard selected Lott as one of its 2010 “Faces to Watch.” She has also been featured in Teen Vogue, Interview, and Nylon, which called her “one of the U.K.’s most promising new pop stars.”

Sharon Stone Slams Meryl Streep-UPDATE

sharon-stone-1

I remember a time when Sharon Stone was considered hot. It was something like 15 years ago. I also remember a time when Meryl Streep was considered hot. It was about 15 seconds ago.

However, that hasn’t stopped Stone from throwing some harsh remarks in Streep’s direction.

Via The Telegraph:

“I look at her and I think, ‘I’m chasing my kids, I’ve moved my parents in with me, I’m coping with food spills – that looks like me in real life’.

“Meryl looks like an unmade bed, and that’s what I look like. To me, that looks true.”

So let’s get this straight kittens. Sharon thinks she’s not getting solid movie jobs because she’s too pretty. While Streep continues to work-landing Oscar nomination after Oscar nomination- because she looks, “ordinary.”

Yes, I am sure your ‘pretty’ has everything to do with it, Sharon and not the fact that your breakout role is remembered solely for featuring your lady muffin.

UPDATE JANUARY 11, 2010

Sharon Stone is a little miffed about our story. According to Stone and her rep, her statements were taken completely out of context. Stone claims, in an exclusive story with our friends at Popeater, that she was trying to compliment the “It’s Complicated” star.

“It is not ok with me for someone to take a statement I made with good-natured intent and to try and make it in to something politically incorrect.”

Please note she makes no correction to my assumption that a flash of her lady muffin made her a star.

Robert Pattinson’s Naked Chest and $20K Kisses

Tell me, who do I make my check out to? “Twilight” hunk Robert Pattinson auctioned off kisses for two people at $20,000 a piece in Cannes at last nights amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS event. The bidding became so high that Pattinson was split between two bidders, who each paid the massive donation for the chance to win a kiss on the cheek from Sparklepants.

The offer of a special screening of Quentin Tarantino’s World War II revenge movie “Inglourious Basterds” raised 60,000 for the charity. David Furnish, husband of Elton John, generously sold his own watch. Also up for grabs at the auction was one of those ridiculous Chanel-branded Segway scooters and a joking strip-tease from Josh Hartnett. Fortunately for him – and us -bidding never got high enough. Maybe they should have asked Robert Pattinson instead? Bill Clinton’s personal Alpine Alto saxophone, which was signed by the former president, went on to sell for an unbelievable $130K.

Per People:

“Everyone in this room is better off than 99.9 percent of people on this entire earth,” he told the gathering, which also included Marion Cotillard, Robin Wright Penn, Eva Herzigova and Paris Hilton.”

You mean Paris Hilton could actually quit sleezing around for one night for a good cause? I guess miracles do happen!

Sharon Stone hosted the 16th annual event Thursday night at the exclusive Hotel du Cap on the French Riviera. The evening also paid tribute to Liam Neeson’s late wife Natasha Richardson. A emotion-filled Sharon remembered the actress as “a passionate supporter and fund raiser” for the AIDS cause. Later, singer Annie Lennox performed a song in honor of the actress.

Its nice to see stars helping to give back to charities.
