Comedic genius and legend Soupy Sales has passed away. He was 83.
The comedian/actor, best known for his ability to throw a pie in someone’s face, was the mastermind behind the children’s program “The Soupy Sales Show”.
Though meant for children, the show devloped a cult-like following of adults who watched the show for Sales’ gags, pratfalls, and puns.
Later, numerous celebs turned-out to guest star on the show in order to be hit in the face with a pie. Such celebs included Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis, and Sammy Davis, Jr.
Via The LA Times:
“Sales had numerous ailments and died Thursday at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, said Kathy O’Connell, a longtime friend.”
As for his knack for pie-throwing, Sales said:
“A pie has to hit you and explode into a thousand pieces, so you see the person’s face and see it take away his dignity.”
