Emma Stone Cast as New Mary Jane in ‘Spider Man’ Movie

Emma Stone is climbing the ranks and may not be doomed to a stint on Dancing with the Hasbeens (and some neverwas-ers). After starring in “Easy A” she is fast becoming a hot Hollywood commodity. You might also recognize her from “The House Bunny” and “Superbad.” Currently she also has several films in post production including the Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis flick, “Friends with Benefits.”

Stone is also attached to another big film according to rumors. Emma is said to have nabbed the role of Mary Jane Watson in the next installment of Spiderman. Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst left the roles a long time ago and casting has been rumored for months. Deadline reports that role of Spidey’s love interest is in Emma’s hands…

“Sony Pictures Entertainment will imminently offer the role of Mary Jane Watson to Emma Stone, who starred for the studio in Zombieland and Easy A.”

The report also mentions actresses up for the role formerly held by Bryce Dallas Howard.

“That leaves the four other actresses I mentioned yesterday (with the possibility they could widen the search) for the role of Gwen Stacy. Those contenders are Glee’s Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott. Stacy, played in Spiderman 3 by Bryce Dallas Howard, is a plum part for the first installment of the 3D Marc Webb-directed reboot of Spider-Man, because she is the first love interest of the high school-aged Peter Parker, played by Andrew Garfield. Mary Jane–played by Kirsten Dunst in the Sam Raimi-directed trilogy–becomes more pivotal in the later installments of the Spidey saga.”

I think I actually prefer Emma to Kristen. (I know, I am biased because I harbor a jealousy of Dunst because she got to ride Jake Gyllenhaal around like circus monkey on a great dane.) Emma seems extremely likable. This should be good.

Andrew Garfield Cast As The Next ‘Spider-Man’

Sony Pictures has just confirmed by sending out a press release that British heartthrob Andrew Garfield has been cast as the next Spider-Man, scheduled to be released in July 2012 in 3D. The new film will begin production in early December, directed by Marc Webb and written by James Vanderbilt.

Per Washington Post:

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” said director Webb in a gushing statement that was part of the same press release. “He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Garfield and Webb got the jobs after star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi, who made three blockbuster “Spider-Man” films together, departed amid story and scheduling issues over a fourth movie. Among others who were said to be considered for the part were Josh Hutcherson, Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, and Aaron Johnson. Garfield most recently worked with director David Fincher on the upcoming film “The Social Network.” Other notable screen credits include “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus,” “Lions For Lambs” and “Boy A.”

What’s your thoughts on this interesting casting choice?

Spiderman’s Lucy Gordon’s Suicide

We at Hollywood Dame are sad to report that British actress Lucy Gordon has died. The Spiderman 3 star took her own life at her home in Paris, she was 28.

After making her debut in movies in 2001, the model turned actress starred in nearly a dozen other movies, including a few that are still in post production stages. Her latest film, a French film based on the life of late singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, is currently screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

Her father spoke of his daugther telling Times of London:

“We have always been immensely proud of her and her achievements. We love her so much. She was called Lucy and she has lived up to that: she has been the light of our lives, me and my wife Sue, and daughter Katie. She was a lovely, generous, unselfish person who gave her all for others and thought of others before herself… She has been the most beautiful daughter. We are obviously devastated.”

In the Gainsbourg film, Gordon played 60s actress and singer Jane Birkin. Such a great talent. Our hearts go out to the loved ones of Lucy.
