There’s nothing quite like an engagement ring to freak you out of a relationship. Avril Lavigne rebounded from her marriage to Deryck Whibley, in record time – hopping right into a relationship with Brody Jenner. The two have been together for two years and even got engaged over the holidays. But alas, now they’re pulling the plug on their relationship.
Sum 41 has released a viral video for the title track of their new album “Screaming Bloody Murder” releasing March 29th. An official video for the track will premiere in the coming weeks. The band spent nearly all of 2010 on the road, including their 4th headlining run on the 2010 Van’s Warped Tour. The video follows the band around with footage from their massive live performances to goofing around backstage and their bus.
Alternative Press has an exclusive stream of a new Sum 41 track, titled “Blood In My Eyes,” from the band’s upcoming new album. The track is the second song that has been released off the album, following the band’s title track, “Screaming Bloody Murder.” “Blood In My Eyes” will also be available for instant download to all those who pre-order the album on iTunes on Tuesday. I had the chance to speak with Stevo of Sum 41 about things such as their influences, craziest tour experience, and their new album. You can read about that below.
How did Sum 41 come together and how did you come up with the name?
We got together on the 41st day of summer in 1986 after a Warped Tour concert.
How would you describe the sound of your music?
Our music is heavy and aggressive. It’s fast and fun. Very melodic.
How has your music changed since you first started?
I think we’ve become better. Our songwriting have improved and become much more honest. Our musicianship has improved. We’ve taken giant leaps forward and have more confidence.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen or experienced while touring?
All sorts of things. But the craziest has to be a documentary in Africa we were shooting. The Democratic Republic of Congo wanted a band to come over and document the civil war in the country and while we were there all sorts of fighting broke out, and it became this crazy battle with shots being fired, mortars, people dying… We couldn’t get out, so we were stuck, but also dodging bullets and grenades and RPG’s and stuff. We started running from room to room because rooms were getting blown up. We had to be evacuated by the UN… I think that was the craziest thing I ever experienced in life.
What are some things you like to do when you are not touring?
We all do our own things. I like to direct music videos, Cone has a side project called ‘The Operation M.D.’, Deryck likes to produce and write for people. We really all just enjoy being in one place for a while.
Have you toured with anyone that you look at as major influences?
Metallica, Motley Crue, and everyone on Warped Tour have been the most influencing, like Pennywise and NOFX. We worked with Iggy Pop as well. We have major respect for everyone we’ve ever worked with.
Who would you love to work with in the studio, or to tour with?
We’ve worked with tons of people. A lot of our collaborations in the past, we’ve been asked to do. I can’t really think of anyone at the moment, except for maybe Elvis Costello.
Your new album ‘Screaming Bloody Murder’ comes out March 29th. How is it different from your past records, but also how you stay true to the Sum 41-sound that everybody knows and loves.
We’ve always tried different things and explored different sounds. I think our fans, when we sound different, they are fine with that. The new album is darker, heavier, and more aggressive. It’s more melodic and fans will be able to see that.
What do you think the new album will encompass that previous albums haven’t?
I don’t know really. We don’t really think about it that way. The new album reeks new levels of honesty to it. It’s not forced or faked. It has sincere, raw honesty to it that a lot of artists can never get.
What’s the next step for you guys?
Just to keep touring. Our album comes out on the 29th so we’ll keep touring for the next two years or so.

What the hell, is Avril Lavigne engaged again already? She married back in 2007 to Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley, but that ended and the divorce was final less than a year ago. She’s since moved on and has been exclusively dating Brody Jenner for about a year, but we may be hearing wedding bells soon because sources are saying the couple is engaged now.

On Feb. 9, during the duo’s whirlwind trip to Europe, the divorced singer, 26, e-mailed a bandmate a picture of her left hand with what appears to be an engagement ring on it – with the subject line “ha ha.” And insiders tell Star that Brody, 27, did indeed pop the question to his girlfriend of about a year. “Avril has hinted to pals that she thought Brody was planning a big surprise during their trip to France,” says an insider. “It’s just her style to be coy rather than coming out with an announcement right away.”

After spending nearly all of last year on the road, including their 4th headlining run on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour – RIAA platinum Island Records group SUM 41 has completed the most long-awaited new studio album of their career. ‘Screaming Bloody Murder,’ arriving March 29th jumps out with the title tune single, “Screaming Bloody Murder,” impacting now at Alternative Rock radio formats.
Screaming Bloody Murder, which opens up a second decade for Sum 41 on Island Records, marks the first album to be fully self-produced Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley. The two-time JUNO Award-winning Canadian band is: Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard/piano), Tom Thacker (lead guitar, vocals), Cone McCaslin (bass, vocals), and Steve Jocz (drums, vocals).
Screaming Bloody Murder follows-up ‘Underclass Hero,’ released July 2007. In the interim, Sum 41 issued their first career-spanning collection, ‘All the Good Sh*t: 14 Solid Gold Hits 2000-2008.’ It compiled singles from their debut mini-album ‘Half Hour Of Power‘ (2000), and all four of their full-length studio albums: ‘All Killer No Filler‘ (2001), ‘Does This Look Infected?‘ (2002), ‘Chuck‘ (2004), and Underclass Hero (2007). Also featured on All the Good Sh*t is one previously unreleased track (“Always”), and live performances of two favorites, “The Hell Song” and “Motivation,” both also included in studio versions.
Prior to All the Good Sh*t, Sum 41’s most recent studio album Underclass Hero debuted at #1 (and earned instant gold certification) in Canada and Japan – where it ousted fellow Island band Bon Jovi’s album ‘Lost Highway’ from the top in Japan after a one month stand at #1. In an unprecedented move to launch Underclass Hero, the band performed the album live in its entirety on their website, www.sum41.com. Underclass Hero was produced (for the first time) by the band’s own Deryck Whibley, who had also written and produced tracks for Avril Lavigne’s album, ‘The Best Damn Thing.’
Underclass Hero followed-up Chuck (October 2004), #10 on the Billboard 200 with over 1 million copies sold worldwide. The album was named for the United Nations worker who daringly rescued Sum 41 from bombs and gunfire during the filming of a documentary in the Congo with nonprofit group War Child Canada. Chuck spun off three consecutive Top 20 Modern Rock chart singles: “We’re All To Blame,” “Pieces,” and “No Reason.”

“Glass Intrepid” is an alternative rock band based out of Texas. Comprised of four members: Bryan (vocals/guitar), Robb (guitar), Reed (bass) and Corey (drums), Glass Intrepid (GI) has close to seven years total experience as a band. Over the years, GI has gained a considerable following having played at almost every major venue in Houston, Dallas and Austin, as well as numerous venues through out the state of Texas.
Glass Intrepid has shared the stage with many national acts such as Papa Roach, 3 Doors Down, Sum 41, Breaking Benjamin, The Used, Snow Patrol, My American heart, The Vanished, The Receiving End of Sirens, The Exies, Drowning Pool, Unwritten Law, Alter Bridge, Mudvayne, Trust Company, Lit and Seether. Glass Intrepid was awarded by Unsigned as the Best Unsigned Rock Band in Texas allowing them to appear at KTBZ’s Buzz Fest XV in Houston, Texas. Glass Intrepid also won a spot on the 2005 Vans Warped tour leading them to recently win first place in the 9th Annual Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands competition out of 10,000 bands nationally.

Seems as though self proclaimed “Princess” Avril Lavigne could be headed to rehab and potentially divorce court if she keeps on the track she’s been on lately! Lately, the washed-up “Complicated” singer is more interested in getting wasted than acting like a wife to husband Derek Whibley, singer for punk-rock band Sum 41. It has been rumored in the past that they’ve had their share of disagreements, but now its looking like you can add marital trouble to the list. The couple were spotted out this weekend partying in Los Angeles together, but they weren’t necessarily enjoying each others company. While Lavigne downed drink after drink, her husband sat alone glumly on the couch, being completely ignored.
