Jackson Rathbone’s ‘Girlfriend’ Trailer and Photos

If you haven’t seen the trailer, here’s the official trailer for Jackson Rathbone’s new film “Girlfriend,” which premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12th.

Per MTV:

Twilighters who find themselves on Team Jasper probably have only one complaint when it comes to Stephenie Meyer’s franchise: They want more of the peaceful-one-minute, violent-the-next vampire who attacks Bella and sets the “New Moon” plot into motion. Jackson Rathbone, the actor behind Jasper Hale, is set to remedy that grievance with “Girlfriend,” a romantic drama that will find the actor leaving the world of vampires behind but continuing to play a character that viewers will find both trustworthy and potentially dangerous.

“Girlfriend” follows the story of Evan, played by newcomer Evan Sneider, a man with Down Syndrome who comes into a hefty lump of money after a tragedy occurs in his life. He decides to give it to the down-on-her-luck Candy, played by Shannon Woodward, a single-mother who he’s loved since they were young but who has problems of her own. One of those problems is her ex-boyfriend Russ, played by Rathbone, which leads to the creation of a very volatile love triangle.

This is director Justin Lerner’s first feature film, and he describes it as a “harsh, modern-day take on the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ fable.” The movie is a real world story set in Middle America which will bring Rathbone’s character into a very bizarre and unconventional love triangle. The “Girlfriend” project came about when Lerner met one of Rathbone’s “100 Monkeys” bandmates Jerad Anderson at the Sundance Film Festival last year. He passed the script along to Rathbone who loved it, and decided to produce the film with Lerner.

Looks like a tearjerker to me! Thoughts?

Ben Affleck Back to Drinking

ben affleck 091009

Ben Affleck, who checked into rehab back in 2001 to battle his alcohol problem, was reportedly spotted at the Sundance Film Festival throwing back a couple of drinks. Despite a public declaration that he was through with drinking, both he and co-star Tommy Lee Jones were seen toasting the success of their movie “The Company Men” together.

Per Radar:

At the party for his new movie, Affleck “immediately sat down at a VIP table and grabbed the bottle of Absolut in front of him and poured a drink,” a source told RadarOnline.com.

That’s not a wise move when you’ve sought out help before. But at Sundance the people around Ben were so shocked by his drinking that they cleared all the photographers out of the area to protect him from what could have been career-wrecking press. Lets hope this was a one time thing and Ben keeps his act together.

Official Trailer For “Dare”

The 2009 Sundance Official Selection “DARE,” a feature film shot entirely in Philadelphia, follows 3 very different teenagers through the last semester of high school. Alexa (Emmy Rossum), the over-achieving good girl who longs to break out of her shell; Ben (Ashley Springer) the melancholy outsider; and Johnny (Zach Gilford), the rich, good-looking, seemingly perfect bad boy. But as all 3 will soon find out, even in the safe world of prep school in the suburbs, no one is who they appear to be. DARE is the first feature of screenwriter David Brind and director Adam Salky, and is produced by Mary Jane Skalski (The Station Agent, The Visitor) and Jason Orans (Goodbye Solo, 2009 Spirit Awards Nominee Producer of the Year). Rounding out the cast is Rooney Mara, Ana Gasteyer, Sandra Bernhard, and Tony Award winners Alan Cumming and Cady Huffman.

Per Movies On Demand:

“[Director Adam] Salky and writer David Brind earn kudos for their thoughtful take on shifting point of views among the three to take audience into the character’s different perspectives of their complicated lives whilst revealing several hidden layers to their personas.”

The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival in the Dramatic Competition Section, and was picked up for theatrical distribution by IMAGE Entertainment. “DARE” is an edgy coming-of-age story, in the tradition of “Saved,” “The Rules of Attraction,” and “Juno.” It opened in NYC & LA on Nov. 13th, and opened Dec. 4th in Philadelphia.

2 Faint at Sundance Film Festival!

I don’t know how scary it is to see a baby drink blood, but according to Shock Till You Drop one of the opening films at the Sundance Film Festival was just so darn scary, that two people fainted!!

“Around 1:30am in the morning, I received this e-mail from Adam Green: “Two faints. One outside and one in the lobby. Egyptian [theater] owner confirmed that in 10 years it’s the first time it’s happened. Amazing screening”"

The movie in question? “Grace“–which tells the tale of a baby who is apparently stillborn, but is revived–with an appetite for her mother’s blood. Scary!!! Now I will give you that the poster for the film is beyond creepy, as is the trailer (you can see the blood on the mother’s shirt in this scene). But I don’t think it would make me faint.

As stated above, it’s the first time fainting has happened at the festival, and over the years, very few movies have had such an effect on its crowd. “Saw 3” had a few fainters, but the most notorious, of course, is “The Exorcist“, back in 1978. I personally thought movie-goers now-a-days were so desensitized, this just didn’t happen anymore. Of course it wasn’t stated who fainted, it could be granny, considering the title of the movie…

The Sundance Film Festival is running currently until this coming Sunday, January 15, 2009, with two more scheduled screenings of the film on Thursday and Friday night. Who knows? Maybe the bodies will start piling up in front of the theatres! Now I would pay to see that!
