ABC Cancels ‘Ugly Betty’

When ‘Ugly Betty’ first premiered I watched it. I liked it. America Ferrera was adorable.

And then…

…well, when Rebecca Romijin was suddenly a cast-member who used to be a man so she could get back at her dad while her brother hit on her-that’s when I (and apparently everyone else) stopped watching.

ABC told the show’s producers yesterday that Betty’s current season, its fourth, is also its last.

Via Entertainment Weekly:

“The good news is that ABC has given Betty’s bosses enough time to craft a satisfying series finale. Exec producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson confirmed as much in this joint statement: ‘We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.’”

No word yet as to whether or not Betty’s Guadalajara poncho will make a final appearance.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler Joins Ugly Betty Cast

Don’t worry “Ugly Betty” fans, its not as horrible as it sounds! America Ferrera isn’t losing her job as the lovable but quirky Betty. Her character on the show just got a promotion to features editor on the seasons finale, so Daniel is looking for a new assistant! Jamie-Lynn Sigler has been tapped to fill the role, playing the sexy, spiritual and funny new assistant named Natalie.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, best known for her role as Meadow on “The Sopranos,” will begin airing in the fall. Natalie is a recurring character in the show’s fourth season, but there seems to be a little conflict on when the character will appear. Some reports have the character showing up in the 2 hour season premiere October 9th, others saying Natalie won’t be seen until the second episode. Will she be the one Daniel really leans on as he deals with Molly’s loss?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler is a nice addition to the cast. Ugly Betty needs some boosts so this is a good start. Does this mean she’ll be leaving “Entourage” as Turtles girlfriend? Was she hired to do damage control after Lindsay Lohan’s failed attempts to boost ratings? Hopefully this will improve the writing and this show’s viewership.

Victoria Beckham Joins Cast of ‘Sex and the City’ Sequel

I have a love/hate relationship with Vicky. I hate that I love her and her ridiculous rich for no reason asset.

It is no surprise that Victoria Beckham has reportedly landed a role in the second “Sex and the City” film. The former Spice Girl has been taking acting lessons to aid in her attempt to score a role in the sequel. Rumor has it that Posh was offered a role in the first movie but had to turn it down.

Per Daily News:

“She really wanted to be in the last movie but wasn’t able to take part because of her commitments with the Spice Girls,” a source said. “This time she’s keen to take part.”

From what I hear, she has the part but an official deal is still being ironed out. A role in the film will do wonders of her attempt a career in acting. Beckham already has her Spice Girls movie and a cameo on “Ugly Betty” on her resume.

Ugly Betty’s Anna Ortiz Gives Birth

After the lasts weeks news, its nice to be able to report on something happy. “Ugly Betty” star Anna Ortiz and her husband Noah Lebenzon welcomed their first child into the world on Saturday. The baby girl, Paloma Louise Lebenzon, was born on Saturday at 4:25 p.m. in New York City weighing in at 7lbs. 10oz. Both mother and baby are doing fine.

Per People:

“She is elated and completely glowing,” said Ortiz’s rep. “She is surrounded by her friends and family and so happy to be a mom. She is just really enjoying the moment. The baby is absolutely beautiful.”

Ortiz admits that she came to the hospital prepared with five different names to choose from, and finally decided on Paloma after getting to know the new arrival. Reports say the name Paloma may have been influenced by Salma Hayek, executive producer of “Ugly Betty.” She and her husband Francois-Henri Pinault have a daughter named Valentina Paloma.

ABC Fires “Ugly Betty”

I don’t know about all of you, but I love the show “Ugly Betty”. Well, I should say I loved the show “Ugly Betty” the first and only season I ever watched it. Turns out, most people are like me and have decided to flip over to NBC to spend Thursday nights yucking it up with Tina Fey and company on “30 Rock.”

ABC announced today their plans to bench the show beginning March 26. The show will be replaced with the Christina Applegate show “Samantha Who?” and the new Megan Mulally/Cheryl Hines (aka Karen Walker/Larry David’s wife on “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) comedy “In the Mother hood”.

The dozen or so of you who still watch “Betty” need not to worry. ABC also announced plans for the show’s return.

ABC statement via EW:

“Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?”

If Samantha and Motherhood don’t tank (let’s not hold our breath), this means that Betty won’t return until sometime in June, after the end of the regular viewing season. The network is stating that this move has been created to not only help launch the new comedy but also to have Betty return sans reruns.

Uh-huh. Sure. It’s a good thing America Ferrera has her “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” cash to fall back on. But what about the rest of the cast? Time to warm-up those vocal chords Vanessa Williams.

‘Ugly Betty Baby’ – Ana Ortiz Pregnant

Congrats are in order! Ana Ortiz, who plays Hilda Suarez on “Ugly Betty,” and husband Noah Lebenzon, guitarist for the band Half Life, are expecting their first child together.

Via People:

“They are thrilled and ecstatic,” says a friend of the couple. “They can’t wait to be parents.”

Earlier in the week it was announced that co-star Rebecca Romijn and husband Jerry O’Connell welcomed twin daughters in December, as well as fellow cast mate Eric Mabius welcoming a son that same month. Back in September Ortiz told People magazine that Romijns’ pregnancy was giving her the itch to start a family of her own.

“It’s definitely something that my husband and I talk about all the time” said Ortiz.

The baby is due at the end of July.
