New Music Friday – The Script

The Script is a three-piece Irish pop rock band from Dublin, Ireland consisting of members Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan, and Glen Power. They are a whole new brand of celtic soul, blending ‘hip hop lyrical flow with pop melodiousness, state-of-the-art R’n'B production with anthemic rock dynamics, classic song construction with gritty contemporary narratives.’

Per Total Assault:

“Irish people have soul,” according to Danny. “It comes from generations of pain, and generations of understanding emotion to be able to physically get that in a solid sound.”

The Script received an award at the World Music Awards for ‘Best Selling Irish Act‘ of 2008, and the ‘Best Band‘ award at the BalconyTV Music Video Awards 2008. They were also nominated for a number of awards at the 2009 Meteor Ireland Music Awards along with a nomination for ‘Best Album‘ at the Choice Music Prize. After reaching #15 on the charts with their debut single “We Cry,” their 2nd single “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” hit the #2 spot. Their debut album, “The Script,” was released in August 2008 and went straight to #1 on iTunes UK & Ireland. Their 3rd single “Breakeven” was released in November 2008, and have just released the video for the single. They are currently on tour with American Idol’s Season 7 Winner David Cook, but will take time out of their busy schedule to make appearances on “It’s On With Alexa Chung” on November 16th and “The Late Show with David Letterman” on November 17th.

Check out the video for “Breakeven” above, and then swing by iTunes to pick up their self-titled debut album. I love this song. If you have ever been through a bad breakup – and honestly, who hasn’t? – then you can relate to this song. Its beautiful and it touches me – possibly because it speaks the truth.

New Music Friday – Muse

If you are a fan of the “Twilight” series, then you more than likely have heard of Muse, who had a hit off the movies’ soundtrack with the song titled “Supermassive Black Hole,” and the song “I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)” off the next movie in the saga “New Moon.” Considered to be an alternative rock band who formed in the early 90s from Teignmouth, England, the band consists of longtime friends Matthew Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. They’ve changed band names a number of times (from names such as Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty, and Rocket Baby Dolls) before finally deciding on the name Muse. Their sound is a blend of alternative rock, classical, electronica, metal, spanish guitars, and progressive rock.

The band is known for their energetic live performances and front man Bellamy’s avid interests in unconventional things such as global conspiracy, extraterrestrial life, theology and the apocalypse. Their lyrical themes involve madcap conspiracy theory, revolutionary rabble-rousing, weird stuff about aliens, religions and other such classic Muse concerns. They have won many musical awards over the years, including 5 MTV Europe Awards 5 Q Awards, 6 NME Awards, and 2 BRIT Awards. The majority of these awards have been attributed to their live performances.

Muse have been heavily involved with “Teenage Cancer Trust,” a charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. They have performed at the Royal Albert Hall where they donated all money made from the merchandise stands to the charity. In September of 2008 all three members were awarded Honorary Doctorates of the Arts by Plymouth University.

Muse has released five studio albums, with their latest released this September titled “The Resistance.” It is the first Muse album to have been produced by the band itself. On its release, it topped the album charts in 19 countries and reached number 3 on the American album charts. The first single off the album, “Uprising,” has reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Alternative Songs chart becoming their 6th Top 10 single and first #1 on that chart. You can check out the video for the single above.

New Music Friday – Justin Bierber

An old soul is the last thing you would expect to find inside 15 year old Justin Bieber, but all it takes is one listen to the new artist to realize that he is years ahead of his manufactured pop-star peers. After posting dozens of homemade videos on YouTube in 2007, where Bieber put his spin on songs from artists like Usher, Ne-Yo, and Stevie Wonder, Bierber racked up over 10,000,000 views from nothing more than word of mouth.

Per Billboard:

“I entered a local singing competition called Stratford Idol. The other people in the competition had been taking singing lessons and had vocal coaches. I wasn’t taking it too seriously at the time, I would just sing around the house. I was only 12 and I got second place.” In an effort to share his victory with his loved ones, Justin began posting his performance footage online. “I put my singing videos from the competition on YouTube so that my friends and family could watch them,” he says. “But it turned out that other people liked them and they started subscribing to them. That’s how my manager found me. He saw me on YouTube and contacted my family and now I’m signed!”

The videos caught the attention of former So So Def marketing executive Scooter Braun, who helped Bieber score an impromptu audition with R&B star Usher. Impressed by what he saw, Usher and Island Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid quickly signed Bieber to a recording contract. Bieber released the single “One Time” about one of Justin’s favorite topics, puppy love, and his album “My World” was released in September. I think we may just have another Jessie McCartney on our hands – Only this one is cutie! You can check out the video for “One Time” above – the song is catchy!

Eva Mendes Covers Four Stories Half Nude – Photos

eva-mendes-half-nude-for-calvin-klein-photos-4

Eva Mendes is spread half naked over a billboard on Unter den Linden street in Berlin, Germany. She has paired off with Calvin Klein for the label’s perfume and lingerie.

The ad for the perfume, Secret Obsession, was banned in America thanks to scenes of the “We Own the Night” actress writing around topless on a bed while taking about madness and love.

I use this as four stories of inspiration to put the fork down.

Beyonce Teams Up With Lady GaGa

billboard women of the year 021009

Since Lady Gaga won’t be touring with egomaniac Kanye West this year, the girl needs to find something to keep her busy. That something is appearance in Beyonce’s video for her new single “Video Phone.” Although the exact details of the video are being kept top secret, an insider on the set did warn fans to expect something “wild” from the pair, and even let it slip what the two stars wore for their performances.

Per Screen:

“Everything on the set was being kept very hush-hush, and security was extremely tight,” a source said.”In the video, Beyonce wears a feathered dress. And of course Lady Gaga wears something wild. The fashion is sick and insane,” the source added.

The two singers were spotted shooting the video in New York together last week. While there is no official premiere date for the video, the single has already been released to radio. Beyonce and Lady GaGa… I expect the video to be nothing short of fierce!

Jennifer Lopez Copies Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce – ‘Fresh Out The Oven’ Lyrics, Video

Jennifer Lopez has resorted to copying her competitor’s ideas. Well, I guess she has been for awhile, but now she is blatantly doing it.

Lopez has set up a website called WhoisLola.com in hopes to make a comeback of epic proportions, instead I find it to be an epic fail. She is stealing Beyonce’s reinvention idea (Sasha Fierce) of creating a persona she has named Lola. In addition to creating an alter ego, she has cranked out a craptastic song called “Fresh Out of the Oven” which features Pitbull.

The lyrics are laughable; the beat is oddly irritating and reminiscent of Brooke Hogan’s attempt at music.

Fresh Out Out the Oven Lyrics

Break it off here, break, break it off there.
Okay, you got your drink in your left hand, put your right hand on your hip
Now bounce your knees back, alternate back and fourth
And if you’re doing it right, your hips will be doing the same thing, lets go

Pitbull:
Cubano, boriqua, a que rica, dale chica
Cubano, boriqua, a que rica, dale chica

Now don’t tell me that you love me to get with this
You say you stay forever but it don’t make sense
Maybe you’re a balla, hope you don’t miss
Cause if not you ain’t gonna get none of this
I only wanna hear swish, i’m a big girl I know what it is
Bend the steering wheel I know if this is
Pick me up at 8, yeah don’t you wish

Fresh out the oven, straight sugar loving, to the beat I love it, hey
You wanna Break it off here, break, break it off there. x4

Be real you can say who u are
Everybody say they a doctor at the bar
You gotta look close to find a real superstar
You international, I open up the jar
www.musicloversgroup.com
I’m ranked so far. Help yourself and take a look in the mirror
Open up ur mouth and stick your tongue out far
Just a little more, okay say ahhh

Fresh out the oven, straight sugar loving, to the beat I love it, hey
You wanna Break it off here, break, break it off there. x4

L-O-V-E Lets not mess around we both know what we need
Now here is what I want, understand me when I say
Make it last, you say you want the cookie, you gonna have to wait
For the cookie, cookie, no touchy touchy, only looky looky

Pitbull:
Mama you S- E- XY wide lips, ass, hips, thighs ? ? ? That’s right x3
Kiss the game goodbye , yea. This is 305 That’s right, That’s right
Naw this ain’t Jada, im the best im the present, im the now, im the later

Nooooo
Fresh out the oven, straight sugar loving, to the beat I love it, hey
You wanna Break it off here, break, break it off there. x4

Pitbull:
Cubano, boriqua, a que rica, dale chica
Cubano, boriqua, a que rica, dale chica

This “Fresh Out of Someone Else’s Oven” crap is going to be part of entire album called “Love.” So more of this is on the way. Give it a week and this will be at the Dollar Tree mixed with socks with ducks on them and Mischa Barton’s career.

Quoteables:

DListed – “That means JLo is dead, and LOLa is now here to terrorize us with her high-pitched shrills that no amount of auto-tune can hide. When JLo, I mean, JLola, hits those sky high notes, angels cut out their ear drums.”

New Music Friday – This Providence

Get ready HWDamers — You are now being thrusted into a new weekly feature called “New Music Friday” where we here at HWD bring you kittens some new music by your favorite artists and hopefully broaden your horizon on some musicians you may not have had the pleasure of being introduced to yet. The first weeks edition focuses on a band called “This Providence.” This Seattle rock band has proved how versatile they’ve become from spending the past two years on the road and refining their craft – their band’s inventive brand of indie rock – by following up their 2006 self-titled “Fueled By Ramen” with their new album “Who Are You Now?” released in March. Originally formed in Seattle back in 2003 by Australian-born vocalist Daniel Young and guitarist Gavin Phillips, the band’s current lineup also features bassist David Blaise and drummer Andy Horst. Their new album is a collection of extremely varied rock songs with influence from bands such as The Cure and The Beatles. It showcases This Providence’s rock edge as much as it does their stripped-down sensibilities.

Per This Providence:

“We took a long time off the road before going into the studio because we wanted to write songs that were dripping with creativity and you can’t rush that,” Young explains, “I think the end result is much stronger because of that… I’m really proud of the way my lyrics turned out this time around. It’s definitely the best work I’ve ever done.”

Formerly known as “Sunday Best,” the have toured with other bands such as Cute Is What We Aim For, Paramore, All Time Low, The Hush Sound, Daphne Loves Derby, Relient K, House of Heroes, Ludo and Brighten. They have just finished The Warped Tour 2009, and are now currently on tour with headliner Cartel, alongside The Summer Set, The Dares and Runner Runner. They have spent most of 2009 on the road making sure they’re heard by as many people as possible. While the album seems to take on an intensely personal vibe, it’s very apparent that anyone who’s ever experienced love or loss can relate to songs like “Selfish” or “Somebody To Talk To” on an emotional level. The first single “Letdown” off their new ablum is in stores and online now! You can watch the video for the song above. HWDamers – don’t be shy! Let us know what you think!

Chris Browns’ Larry King Live Interview – Video

Chris Brown has appeared on “Larry King Live” to plead his case in the court of public opinion claiming he was ashamed of himself for assaulting his girlfriend at the time Rihanna, but says he wouldn’t go into the details of the evening out of respect for Rihanna’s privacy. Brown appeared with his mother Joyce Hawkins and lawyer Mark Geragos and tried his best to explain why he lost his temper with her.

Per Examiner:

“I feel like that just there — there’s — we’re young. We’re both young. So nobody taught us how to love one another. Nobody taught us a book on how to control our emotions or our anger.”

Thats the biggest bs excuse I’ve heard as of yet. Chris also blamed his mother’s abusive husband, claiming he doesn’t remember the incident happening. He also stated that he may have become violent because of his age. Sounds to me like a typical abuser, always placing the blame elsewhere except on your own shoulders. Brown, who also told King that he’s still in love with Rihanna and even said he could see a situation where the two could potentially be married in the future, pleaded guilty in June to felony assault and was sentenced to five years’ probation, 180 days of community service, and a year-long domestic violence program, but no jail time. There is also a protective stay away order in effect for Rihanna against Brown.

Per Examiner:

“As far as the actual, what I have to do, I felt personally that, as far as, not saying as a celebrity, because I don’t exclude myself and try to become like, oh, well I’m a celebrity so I shouldn’t be punished. But I feel like, with what I’m capable of doing, as far as influencing people, influencing kids, the youth, I can do a lot more to help the community, other then picking up trash. But, I don’t, I’m not saying picking up trash is something wrong, I’m willing to do it, I’m just saying I know I can do a lot more, which I intend to do, aside from my community service.”

Sorry Chris, but I believe you’re now one of the last people we want influencing today’s children. In spite of the pleas agreement, Brown seems determined to downplay the incident going so far as to questioning whether the photo of Rhianna’s bruised and battered was altered because “That’s not who I am as a person”. When King brought up the prior incidents that were unearthed in Brown’s probation report, an argument overseas and an incident in Barbados where Brown allegedly broke a car window after a fight, the singer refuted any suggestion that the occurrences were evidence of previous abuse and claimed those events never happened.

Per Examiner:

“I’m not aware of those instances,” he explained. “Especially of that nature … as a couple we have had arguments, but nothing to this point.”

Selective memory at its finest. I’m sure I’m not alone in wondering what his ultimate goal for doing the interview in the first place, but I’ve got some theories. None of them being sincere.

Katie Holmes on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ – Video

In a pre-taped and pre-recorded performance, Katie Holmes does her best to impress with a version “Get Happy” originally owned by Judy Garland. She was on “So You Think You Can Dance” to pimp her new charity called The Dizzy Feet Foundation. The goal is to help underprivileged kids to experience the art of dance.

Wait…she is helping poor children with the gift of dance? Who is she aiming to help…Oliver Twist perhaps? Those kids are malnourished, but damn they can dance!

Quoteables”

Yeeeah - “Belting out Judy Garland in a pair of fishnets surrounded by sweaty gyrating mens sounds less like a foray into charity and more like Tom Cruise’s wet dream magically come to life. ”
